Introducing The World of Avatar: The Last Airbender

Islands of Adventure opened in 1999 with originally, 6 themed islands. Throughout the years, the islands have been adapted, changed, or new ones added. Whether it’s the addition and eventual expansion of The Wizarding World of Harry potter, the addition of Skull Island, and the complete re-tracking of the Incredible Hulk Coaster, work has been done to upgrade the guest experience throughout the park in all the themed lands, except one: Toon Lagoon. Throughout the 24 years the park has been open, Toon Lagoon has seen no real changes to the land with it still holding the same two water rides and dining options that guests would have found on day 1. Finally, Toon Lagoon gets the update it needs/ deserves.

Avatar: The Last Airbender takes over Toon Lagoon with The World of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Avatar has been a strong IP for almost 20 years at this point, with fans constantly asking when it would get it’s own theme park presence. With a new animated feature film coming in 2025, Universal bought the theme park rights to bring the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender to life.
