But this is more than just a rafting experience - once you enter the boarding house, you’ll find out that this attraction is very glaringly sponsored by the Ember Island Players, a playwright/group of performers who dedicate their time to entertain YOU while you wait in line.
The Queue
Stepping into the boarding house, esteemed guests will find a small museum all about the Ember Island Players, including rare props/costumes/posters from prominent Ember Island Players Shows - which include Love amongst the Dragons and The Boy in the Iceberg, written by Earth Kingdom playwright Pu-on Tim. Then, in orderly performance action, guests will be able to meet the actors themselves, performing the pre-show spiel!
The Ride Experience
The rafters begin to glide away from the loading station. Soon, we reach the first part of the ride, dedicated to the “originally existing” animals of Ember Island. This includes:
The Spider Bat
The Catgator
The Elephant Koi
The Killer Shrimp
The Turtle Duck
The Racoon Crow
The Crococat
The Fire Ferret
The Hoppy Possum
The Platypus Bear
The Lion Vulture
And last but not least, the winged lemur and flying bison, Momo and Appa. At least, they aren’t the real attraction, because nearby you can see Aang and co! All is peaceful, until guests go right off course, going the wrong way of the river fork… right into a Fire Nation encampment! Flames lick the ground, and guests float past a large fire bender airship (originally Me Ship, the Olive). A narrow escape, but while the ship keeps the guests distracted, the rafts drop down into a cavern, the reason of the camp’s placement…
The icy cavern, filled with glaciers, waterfalls, and foreboding ocean music, reveal the threat to Ember Island: A massive Unagi! It roars as the raft narrowly escapes the cavern. It seems that the Unagi had spread its icy wrath everywhere, and the entire river portion is filled with ice. But soon, turning a corner, guests go up and up a lift hill themed to a fire bender architecture where lots of hoses spray at guests… This path leads straight to the infamous Cave of Two Lovers, which out of the blue, has an entrance near Ember Island! The rafts reach the top, and suddenly dip down into the darkness. With wild speed, the raft swims through the dark caverns and thrilling music ensues. Soon, the rafts slow down as glowing letters tell that “Love is brightest in the dark”, homage to the original Cave episode. The rafts exit the cave, and soon, to back to the loading station.
