Step 4: Mock Class(es)

So what exactly is the VIPKID Mock Class?

The Mock Class is your time to shine and put into practice all of the helpful techniques you've learned throughout the hiring process. At this point, you've already passed the initial application (Step 1), the Interview/Demo (Step 2), and the Teaching Prep (Step 3).

You will choose a day and time to schedule the Mock Class. Once you schedule it, VIPKID will send you the lesson slides so that you may begin to prepare.

Some important things to know about the Mock Class:

• It is hosted by a "Mock Class Mentor" (I will refer to the "MCM" on this site). The MCM is not the same person as your interviewer; rather, the MCM is a current VIPKID teacher who will pretend to be your student as you teach the lessons.
• There are a few parts to the Mock Class, for which you are allotted 1 hour:
  • Talking with the MCM (greetings, getting to know you, time for your questions)
  • Part 1: one 15-minute Beginner Lesson ("Letter Xx")
  • Feedback from your MCM, more time for your questions
  • Part 2: one 10-minute Intermediate Lesson ("My Country, My Culture")
  • Feedback from your MCM, final questions
• The main thing VIPKID is looking for is your ability to apply the feedback mentioned by your MCM during the "Feedback" after Part 1 to Part 2. For example, if your MCM tells you after Part 1 that you need to smile more, be sure to smile more during Part 2.

So...what happens after the Mock Class?

While there is a small possibility that you may not pass the Mock Class, it's more likely that you will continue the journey toward becoming a VIPKID teacher. There are a few ways that VIPKID may choose for you to proceed after passing the Mock Class:

• Mock Class 2
• Immediate Contract Offer

If you are asked to complete a Mock 2, it's ok! VIPKID is still invested in your success. Be sure to apply the feedback you received in your Mock 1 as you prepare for your Mock 2!
