On this page, you'll find some of my favorite products that I recommend because they are budget-friendly and work like a charm. You can explore these options (and more) simply by clicking "Shop now" and Amazon will open in a new window. I've included purchasing tips, too. Happy shopping!
The "classics": basic essentials of VIPKID teachers!
Headset:
Yes, you DO need a headset for VIPKID! Thankfully, they're not as expensive as they used to be. Whether you choose wireless is up to you; the main concern is that the headset is comfortable, you'll be able to hear the student, and the student will be able to hear you.
Webcam:
Most laptops have sufficient built-in webcams. If you're not a fan of your webcam or have a desktop computer, you'll probably want to buy one that has great reviews about the image clarity.
Wireless mouse:
Although not required, a wireless mouse makes clicking, drawing lines, and writing in the classroom a breeze...especially for teachers working on a laptop!
Gotta give you props!
Puppets:
Besides a small dry erase board (which I recommend buying from the dollar store), puppets are my go-to prop! They're great for modeling conversations, among other things. "Stick" puppets are great because you can easily move the mouth! Finger puppets add some "life" to your songs!
Letter Flashcards:
While you could make these yourself, it's much easier to buy a set! It's so helpful to have these handy because it'll save you from writing the same letters over an over again (and they look great, too!).
Tools for creating printed, 2D props!
Color Printer:
Printers are much more affordable than they used to be...and it's a lot of fun to print your own props! Be sure to check out the "Favorite Resources" tab for a link to one of my favorite Facebook groups for printable 2D props!
Laminator:
To keep your 2D props in tip-top shape, use a cheap laminator! This model comes with sheets and you can easily buy more laminating sheets on Amazon, too.
Magnets:
You can buy magnets just about anywhere. Many teachers enjoy putting magnets on the back of their 2D props in order to organize and display them on magnetic boards (such as the magnetic dry erase board linked below).
Extra "tech" tools to keep you connected and stress-free!
USB Hub:
This inexpensive tool is SO helpful if you find that more than one tool you are using requires your USB port (for example, my laptop only has one USB port and I have two pieces of equipment that require a USB connection).
Battery Backup & Surge Protector:
Think of this tool as "insurance" in case of a power outage or issue with your electricity. It should buy you enough time to finish your class(es) and find a different place to set up until you're back up and running!
Ethernet Cord:
If you're using a laptop or simply want to improve your internet connection, consider using an ethernet cord. This one is long enough (25 feet) to stretch quite a distance!
Bigger-ticket items (for those in need of a serious classroom makeover!)
Dry Erase Board:
This tool isn't required, but many teachers enjoy the versatility of having a large dry erase board as part of their background. This one is 2 ft x 3 ft. The best part of all: it's magnetic!
Laptop:
This is the exact laptop model that I use. I love my Lenovo Yoga because it's light and has a crystal-clear camera. It's also intuitive to use!
Desk Converter (sitting/standing):
Personally, I prefer to stand while teaching. The standing desk that I have is no longer available, but this is an excellent alternative that easily converts your traditional desk into a standing desk!
