What is Peardeck？

Pear Deck is a Google slides add on that can make powerpoint slides or google slides interactive. Teachers can insert questions in their slides and get students to answer synchronously or asynchronously. This helps teachers to embark on formative assessment and check on students' understanding.

1. Create an account at https://www.peardeck.com/

2. Install the peardeck add on in google slides or powerpoint online.

3. Depending on your needs, you can create 5 different types of questions.（https://help.peardeck.com/the-five-interactive-question-types ）

4. Click "start lesson", you can choose between student paced (asynchronous) or instructor paced (synchronous)

5. Inform students the code or link, students can login and start answering.

Fees: Free or pay for additional functions (I find the free one sufficient for my needs)

Some tips

1. 2 ways to use the powerpoint slides you previously created

Method 1（If you do not have Microsoft Office 365 online)：

a. Go to Google slides, click File > Import slides > Upload and then upload your PPT

b. OR upload all documents to google and select open with google slides

Method 2（If you have Microsoft Office 365 online)：

a. Install Peardeck Powerpoint online add in (https://help.peardeck.com/get-the-pear-deck-for-powerpoint-online-add-in ）

2. The free version of Peardeck does not display the names of students. If you would like to know who answered what, you can get them to write their name in their response.

3. If you want to use the same question type multiple times, you can copy and paste the peardeck bar at the bottom of the slide.

4. If you do not want students to continue answering questions, you can lock the screen and stop responses. （https://help.peardeck.com/use-the-timer-and-automatically-lock-screens ）

5. After class, you can end sessio and download student responses (except draw和draggable questions）。(https://help.peardeck.com/can-i-export-student-responses )
