Angels and the Dragon

In the 18th century evil garestin witch was bothering the citizens of Garestin and was destroying their lives. This town, today known as Varaždin, had brave counts who confronted the which and banished her from the town. She was furious and wanted a revenge. She went to the Trakoščan castle and woke up the horrifying dragon that was sleeping in the bottom of the lake near the castle. The dragon caused a big fire which was flameing all over the town. To save Varaždin from the complete destruction, angels came to help the citizens of Varaždin.

Be one of the angels, help to blow out the fire and banish for good the witch and the dragon. Play the game, solve at least 10 puzzles and save Varaždin!

ABOUT THE GAME

„Angels and the Dragon“ is an educational board game that covers content from the history and geography of the Republic of Croatia. To banish the witch and the dragon for good, and save Varazdin from destruction, angel players must successfully solve ten tasks together - this will turn off all the bulbs. The game includes using ICT technology.

Rules

  • The game is made for at least 2 and a maximum of 6 players, 12 years or older.

  • Players become angels. Their mission is to rescue the city of Varazdin from the evil witch and the terrible dragon.

  • The player board is a geographical map of the Republic of Croatia. In addition to the board, there are figurines and cards with tasks included in the player box.

  • The players must work together to solve tasks. Each successfully solved task shuts off one bulb.

  • To rescue the city, it is necessary to turn off 10 bulbs in 30 minutes.

Outcomes*

The students will:

  1. determine the position of the Republic of Croatia and its cities

  2. recognize social, cultural and economic opportunities in Croatia through the centuries

  3. awake the national identity of people who have lived in the Republic of Croatia

  4. determine the course of creation of the SHS state and the SHS Kingdom in the context of international events

  5. recognize the borders of the Republic of Croatia on the historical map

  6. get familiarised with legends related to the historical events of Republic of Croatia
