The UCL Stone Centre Conference on
The UCL Stone Centre Conference on
London, December 18-19
supported by the UCL Department of Economics and the Institute of Fiscal Studies
The Stone Centre Conference on Optimal Taxation and Policy Design will take place in London on December 18-19, 2025.
The workshop has been organised by Deniz Kattwinkel (UCL), Alan Olivi (UCL) and Vasiliki Skreta(UT Austin, UCL, CEPR, NBER) with the support of the Stone Centre at UCL and the IFS. The conference aims to bring together theorists and applied researchers in public finance, all working on taxation from various perspectives.
The event will take place over two days on Thursday 18th and Friday 19th December. The sessions will explore the following themes
Wealth Taxation: with a particular focus on the issue of hidden wealth and costly verification models.
Income taxation: exploring how advancements in mechanism design (e.g. robustness, multidimensional screening of heterogeneous agents, bounded rationality) inform tax design.
Fiscal Policies for Transforming Economies: how to optimally finance societal changes (ecological transitions, war economies, innovation).
Redistribution without Taxes: examining programs such as social housing, food stamps, and how to connect them with market design research.
