Kia ora! Nau mai ki te KURA TUARUA O KARAMU. And welcome to our te reo Māori class 2021! This is where all your mahi will be posted and where you will find all of the content for classes. The documents you fill out will be posted to the TEAMS page for me to mark. We'll get the hang of it in no time! To start off this is the home page where you will find all the admin and tips that will help you navigate this site.
Each lesson begins and concludes with a karakia. If you are ever eating in the Te Reo Māori classroom, you will first need to conduct a karakia. The following are the karakia that you will memorise for the year.
As an addition to ngā tikanga o te akomanga, we will be introducing kupu rāhui, or words that are not allowed to be said in the akomanga. These kupu are part of a micro-immersion plan that the Māori Department are working on to make sure you guys are great speakers of te reo! These kupu will be in the Hei Mahi instructions and posted in the akomanga. Kia kaha rā tātou
Kupu Rāhui: pen, head, shoulders, stomach, hips, legs
In partners, stand opposite each other. Have a pene in between you two either on the floor or on the table. Now place your hands, first on your māhunga, your pokohiwi, your puku, your hope, then your waewae.
Get familiar with these kupu, when one of these kupu are called out, you must place your hands on that part of your body. If the kupu pene is called out, it is a race to see who can get the pen first.
