This poster on the left is from one of my groups from Fern Ridge Middle School. My team's mascot this week was the rough-skinned newt, which crawls all around HJ Andrews. I asked my students to create a mural of certain things that they remember from the field trip. I was always proud to sit back and watch the students start to grab a marker and draw the trees I taught them about during the tree identification lesson. Then I would see other students working together to draw a newt, and others were writing phenophases of a plant's life cycle from the phenology lesson. This lesson was developed in hopes that the students remembered a couple of things from the field trip and every time I was blown away. The retention of knowledge, the passion, and the inspiration I was able to witness reassured me that I did reach these students.
