Teaching Portfolio

Hi there! I'm Tatum Reiter and this is my website! Thank you for taking the time to see all the awesome projects I was apart of in 2023. This website is designed to display my work and skills from the University of Oregon Environmental Leadership program. From a young age and being an Oregonian I have always had a sense of needing to connect with nature. Through the University of Oregon, Environmental Leadership Program, I was given the opportunity to introduce middle school students to HJ Andrews Experimental Forest in Blue River, Oregon. Connecting with three different middle schools around Eugene, I was able to put my leadership, organizational, and teaching skills to the ultimate test. With years of experience in childcare development and hospitality, I was able to foster an equitable learning environment for all students at HJ Andrews and in the classrooms. Each week, ELP is reaching to promote and inspire long-term change, with place-based learning objectives, and student-led conversations surrounding the topic of climate change. The environmental leadership program sparked my interest in becoming an educator in the future. This program sheds light on not only the environmental crises and how to navigate these unprecedented times but how to get involved in your community.

HJ ANDREWS EXPERIMENTAL FOREST

HJ Andrews is the backbone of the lesson plans linked in the evidence tab. The Environmental Leadership Program created and developed four lesson plans over the course of the winter and spring term at the University of Oregon, specifically along the trails at this old-growth forest in Blue River, OR.

Land Acknowledgement: HJ Andrew Experimental Forest is located on Kalapuya Ilihi and Molalla Land. Because of the Kalapuya Treaty of 1855, these two nations were forcibly removed from this land and were forced to relocate to the Grand Ronde reservation area.
