"The Code sets out the shared expectations of our profession that we aspire to and have agreed to uphold. It reminds us of our obligations and responsibilities to others and the need to demonstrate high standards of professional behaviour in all we do. It is also a learning tool to assist us to engage in professional learning conversations about our practice."
To uphold the expectations set out in the code is our responsibility as teachers but I do believe we are trained to see these commitments as 'tick box requirements' and nothing more. While I appreciate that this is certainly a good start, I wanted to set higher expectations for myself. I wanted my philosophy to embody these commitments, to weave and intertwine them seamlessly into my practice instead of being something performative. I would hope that any parent, child, member of our community or fellow educator would see these commitments reflected in my every day practice, in everything that I do, throughout the year. This portfolio highlights some examples of how I have met these commitments but is in no way able to encompass them all. I pledge to continue honouring these commitments throughout my career.
