Ruma Pīwakawaka 2022
Ruma Pīwakawaka 2023
At the beginning of my teacher training, I asked myself: 'Who do I want to be as a teacher?' This is what I wrote:
I will be a resilient and adaptive teacher who creates an inclusive and inspiring classroom environment. I will ask my students meaningful questions and guide them to take true ownership of their learning. For as long as I remain in the profession, I will commit to growing and learning alongside my students. Knowledge will not only be imparted but collected as well.
We will move forwards together.
My first day as a PRT at Tirimoana School (January 2022)
Graduating as a PRT with my Y3 team (November 2023)
While this collection of evidence is certainly a 'highlight reel', I hope that it is able to capture at least an essence of what my two years as a PRT at Tirimoana School has looked like. My goals for next year (and beyond) include continuing to put relationships at the forefront of everything I do. Having high expectations for my class and setting clear boundaries. I aim to be consistent and fair. I want to continue my journey learning Te Reo Māori and developing my application and understanding of the Universal Design for Learning. I also want to take care of myself, explore who I am as a person and discover what my future looks like. For however long that teaching is my chosen career, I pledge to make sure that I am motivated, inspired and the best version of myself that I can be.
Of course, a few pages on a website are never going to be able to truly capture what an all-encompassing career teaching is and tell every single story but I would like to think these stories can be heard, felt and seen by stepping into my classroom, talking to the students that have had me as their teacher and working/collaborating with me as a team member. I am grateful to have completed my first 2 years in the teaching profession. This job is so demanding but also so rewarding. There have been good days and not-so-good days, tears, laughter, frustration, breakthroughs... it truly has been a journey!
I feel proud of myself for becoming the educator that I am today and hopeful about the educator that I am to become.
