Objctives:

This course introduces the concept and technologies of telecommunications to students. Analog

and digital methods of transmission, components used in networks, line protocols, network

topology, and the design of networks will be discussed

Course Outline

Network architecture:

Physical Layer:

· Circuit switching. Packet switching.

Data Link Layer:

· Error Detection, Error Correction, Error Control,

· Point to point access

· Multiple access

· Local Area network

· Wireless Lan

· Connecting Devices

· Virtual Circuit Switching

· Medium access control(MAC):

Network Layer:

· Routing in packet-switched networks

Transport Layer:

· TCP protocol

· Congestion and its control.

· Quality of Service;

Application Layer:

· Client/server concept;

· Domain name system

· Web technologies : HTML, HTTP, Electronic mail. WWW;

Marks Distribution:

Class test: 15%

Assignment: 15%

Midterm Exam: 20%

Final Exam: 50%
