Hey there, Yi Yun here! =P
I am a 18-year-old girl who was born in 3rd of January. I was born in Penang but I live in Johor Bahru since young. I travel to Penang (10 hours of journey by car) at least twice a year to visit my grandmother and relatives.
I have enrolled in Foundation in Design AUG intake 2020 of Taylor's University.
I'm an ordinary girl who dreams to create my own animation and deliver my thoughts to the whole world.
I find that Studio Ghibli's movies are very meaningful and worth thinking deeply. Sometimes when we grow up, we tend to forget how we enjoy life in those childhood days.
So I always tell myself, "Remain true to the original aspiration, remember what makes you you."
I'm a huge fan of Studio Ghibli movies. I watched almost all of the series. Besides the famous one (Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Ponyo, My Neighbor Totoro), I'd like to mention one of the movies that really impressed me. It is "The Tale of Princess Kaguya". The unique art style makes it stands out among other movies. However, not much people heard of this movie before. I really like this movie because the characters' emotion are well expressed through this watercolor alike art style. Empty space is a rarity in animation in general as much as it is in the rest of Ghibli’s oeuvre. The charcoal lines aren’t necessarily drawn to complete the shapes of their objects but only enough to make the shapes visible, just as the watercolor didn't always fill in these shapes entirely or are even retained within their borders. I highly recommend this movie.
I love drawing since young and I dream to become an artist. I started by drawing comics, design characters, and then learned how to color using crayons. In secondary school, I learnt how to draw watercolor painting and pencil sketch. I also started learning portrait in May 2020. I hope I can move on into digital art very soon to produce more visual effects like glowing or lightning using Photoshop or Autodesk sketch.
Picture at the right is a watercolor painting I finished in July 29, 2020. It was the first time I draw portrait using watercolor. Although the results is not very satisfying, I think I still have a lot of space for improvement.
I love sports because sports help me to relieve stress. I played ping pong in primary school, but then I switched to learn badminton for a year. Sometimes I still hang up with my friends to play badminton.
I was an athlete in school. I took part in 400m, 800m, 1500m, 4x100m and 4x400m and cross-country race before. I did win the gold medal in 4x100m, 4x400m, 400m,1500m, and cross-country race in school level. I still remember that I hurt my leg in 4x400m, and I still continue to participate in the next race, 400m if I'm not mistaken. I almost got the bronze medal but my friend went beyond me at the very last second. We reached the end at almost same time. My green house teacher was very proud of me although I didn't win in the race. After that I did not take part in other races due to the wound on the sole of my foot.
I joined Boys' Brigade in 2015. Boys' Brigade was the first uniformed youth organisation in the world, spreading over 60 countries.
My company was 1st Johor Bahru Company. I am grateful to join this organisation because it gave me a chance to gain a lot of different experiences.
I was part of the participant in the national competition (PESTA) 2016. I took part in the band competition, and surprisingly we were the champion! I was really excited because it was my very first time participated in a national band competition!
Undoubtedly, it was one of my greatest achievement in the secondary school life.
This is my instrument, trumpet! I have 3 years experience on playing this instrument. I love playing this instrument because it helps me bring down stress.
Trumpet is an instrument motivated by wind, so one of the most important strategies in learning to play an instrument that relies on the breath is to strengthen the breath.
The performance that I involved in...
It was Graduation Day! It was a very special ceremony for me because I received two awards during this day. I would like to express my appreciation to those who kept supporting me throughout the journey.
Especially my parents, who are very supportive to every decision I made. Without their support, guidance and advice, I won't be who I am today.
On the day I received my SPM results, I was very casual because I did not have high expectations. I knew I had tried my very best during exams. The results turned out better than my expectation.
Also, take a look at my class graduation video!
I'm proud to be one of the crazy students in 5SN1, which was the noisiest class in my entire batch. xD
Still remember those days, we played basketball under the sun, we finished our add maths homework in last minute, and we sang songs like a concert in the class.
Together we study, together we play, together we get flying colours in SPM.
However, all good things must come to an end, there is no repeat button in our lives, so remember to treasure every moment you live. =)
