This time we took a road trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The schedule was a bit hectic, starting with moving Lauren out of her dorm on Friday night. Saturday we hit the road, starting with a visit to 6 Flags in New Jersey for Sean's 16th birthday, a day and a half in DC (including last minute tickets to go up the Washington Monument), a visit with our friends that moved to North Carolina last year, a few days at the beach with Tanya's brother Brian and his wife Laura, then a stop at their house on the drive home.
As it's usually cold on our Anniversary in January, and we didn't want to fly during this Covid insanity, so we decided to take a road trip instead. Tanya and I took a week and drove from NH down to Virginia Beach and back home to NH, with a few fun stops along the way. About 2,000 miles in all, we stopped at Longwood Gardens, Monticello (amazing!), a The Inside Scoop ice cream shop in PA (with an awesome retro Tesla Charger - pictured), and spent a few days at the beach. We stayed at Hilton Inn & Suites along the way, and they had free destination chargers so we woke up with a full battery each morning. The free supercharging along the way was as usual, super easy. It is so cool to see Wawa adding Superchargers to there stores. I hope they open some of those here in New England. It's relaxing to road trip in a Tesla - the huge screen with the detailed map, the auto-routing to superchargers along the way, and the nice quiet & insanely powerful motors make it exciting.
One of the highlights of the trip was stopping in Richmond at the Lewis Ginter botanical gardens. Right after we parked, and were getting our hats and sunblock from the frunk, three excited girls about 6-10 and their wonderful grandmother struck up a conversation. The 10 year old was super-knowledgeable about Tesla, and was telling her grandmother all about it. The grandmother couldn't believe it was all electric and only battery powered. We talked for a while, showed them the car, and let the girls sit in the front seats and play with the screen. I offered to take them all for a quick ride around the parking lot but the four ladies were meeting some friends in the gardens, and would have been late.
Tanya and I took a second road trip in Jarvis during the summer of 2019, going up to visit some relatives in Montreal. We stopped at "Splash at the Boathouse" for lunch, and it was an amazing spot. lunch on the floating dock with incredible boats all around - even a float plane pulled up and docked to have lunch.
The visit with our relatives and all around Montreal was wonderful. We stopped at the amazing botanical gardens, did some shopping, and exploring of the area. We saw more Tesla's in Canada than we do around home in NH!
In all, we traveled about 1,500 miles across the border and around Canada. As always, the supercharger network made the trip easy. At one point we were in a group of four blue Tesla's all lined up at every other charger. I should have snapped a pic!
Our first road trip was when we first went to pick up Jarvis, in Mt. Kisco, NY, and continued on to NJ & NY. More about this trip on the Delivery tab. Our first non-gas gar and we started with a 1,000 mile road trip.
