White Lodging and the JW Marriott together form a community of individuals who embody hospitality, evident in their work. Their dedication to being Hospitalitarians is reflected in the way guests are treated and prioritized. Each department works seamlessly together, demonstrating their commitment to creating unique and memorable experiences for guests. The JW was the perfect place for myself, as an intern who wanted to learn from peers . The hotel encourages employees to make decisions on their own and be proactive. Following suit of my peers, I am always encouraged when I am able to make decisions on my own regarding tasks from our own team or clients. Through their actions, the hotel and its employees showcase values of genuine care, diversity, and a passion for making others feel good.
In my role as an intern, I am the initial point of contact with clients, entrusted with facilitating seamless communication across various departments collaborating with the client. My responsibilities entail ensuring a smooth flow of interaction, fostering strong connections, and delivering exceptional service. These responsibilities are met by introducing our team of red coats to our clients daily, being prompt to deliver any requests that are made, and by guaranteeing their needs are communicated to the right departments of the hotel. More specific requests from clients could be regarding small changes such as temperature requests, grabbing a coffee or even big needs such as adjusting event orders for an additional 40+ guests. These tasks are often small and frequent, but these are the same tasks that build onto the mission of the hotel in which our goal is to give our clients a great experience with their time spent at the JW.
Here at the JW, teamwork is a daily part of our routine. Employees work together every single day to ensure that the course of the day runs smoothly. Each department within the hotel works seamlessly to provide guests with the best experience at the JW. Working collaboratively everyday allows employees to voice to their peers about what improvements can be made daily, large or small, to sustain the efficiency of the hotel's operations.
Having experienced a work environment that emphasizes teamwork and encourages independent decision making has changed my preferences. Having autonomy is now a factor I will be searching for with roles that I am applying for.
At my time spent here at the JW, I have observed a distinct culture centered around love and hospitality. This sentiment might seem innate to a hotel environment, but every employee loves what they do and it shows in their work. At work, the staff interact with each other as if they are family, always ready to lend a helping hand. This kind of workplace culture is very new to me as I am used to strict atmospheres. Here at the JW, there is nothing but kind interactions between all employees and staff on site.
I have been pleasantly surprised by the warmth and kindness of everyone on the team. The daily interactions always set a positive tone for the day. The supportive environment has remained constant throughout my internship, shaping my journey here to be a wonderful one.
