MCC Proposed Strategies - The Maine Climate Council has been charged with developing strategies to both reduce Maine’s greenhouse gas emissions and to ensure Maine's people, economy, and communities are more resilient to the impacts of climate change. In June, the six working groups of the Maine Climate Council presented their draft strategies for the council. This summer is our opportunity to weigh in on these strategies, and tell the council what we think should be included in Maine's four-year Climate Action Plan. Click here to link directly to each working group's recommendations.
The Maine Climate Council is part of the Governor's Office of Policy Innovation & the Future. Here is the link to more on how the Council was formed, its working group members, and schedule.
We, the youth of Maine, recognize that addressing the climate crisis in a way that will ensure a just and livable future for all will require addressing the root causes of the crisis, and making bold changes. Addressing climate change will require a new economy, a new energy system, a new democracy, and a new relationship to the planet and each other. It will also require rights to food sovereignty, expansion of human rights and rights of indigenous peoples, and solutions for the dignity of all people. Based on the science we learn in school, we know that we must achieve zero emissions by 2030 in order to ensure this future. Read full statement here.
