Maine Youth for Climate Justice (MYCJ) is a coalition of over 250 youth from all over Maine who fight for bold climate action, a just transition, and a livable future in Maine. MYCJ was founded by various high school and college groups, Maine Youth Action Network, and 350 Maine’s Youth Engagement team in February 2019. MYCJ is open to anyone under the age of 30 who is interested in engaging at the local or state level about climate justice issues.

We, the youth of Maine, recognize that addressing the climate crisis in a way that will ensure a just and livable future for all will require addressing the root causes of the crisis, and making bold changes. Addressing climate change will require a new economy, a new energy system, a new democracy, and a new relationship to the planet and each other. It will also require rights to food sovereignty, expansion of human rights and rights of indigenous peoples, and solutions for the dignity of all people. JustME for JustUS (JMJU) is a new project of Maine Environmental Changemakers in collaboration with Campaign Earth.
JustME for JustUS is a new project dedicated to developing a civic engagement and climate justice statewide youth-led network. Our goal is to convene a powerful group of diverse Maine youth who care about the environment and climate justice, connect them with each other and mentors, and provide training and resources needed to be a force in 2020 and beyond. We offer regional listening sessions, trainings, school and campus visits, and youth led strategy development. Our goal is to shift power and mobilize Maine youth to be critical players in building a just and sustainable Maine. This kind of project does not yet exist in Maine!
OTHER YOUTH COALITIONS AND ORGANIZATIONS
The Sunrise Movement is a youth movement to stop climate change and create millions of good jobs in the process. We’re building an army of young people to make climate change an urgent priority across America, end the corrupting influence of fossil fuel executives on our politics, and elect leaders who stand up for the health and wellbeing of all people.
