SCOPE

The 1st International Workshop on Teaching AI-based Translation and Technologies (TAITT 2026) is the first dedicated forum focusing on pedagogy, curriculum design, and professional training in the rapidly evolving landscape of AI-driven translation technologies.

2026 marks the 25th anniversary of the first workshop on teaching machine translation, held at MT Summit VII, which Kenny (2020) identifies as “the beginning of systematic thinking about the teaching of translation technology”.

Since then, translation education has undergone profound technological, social, and pedagogical transformation. Today, teachers and trainers must integrate a vast and growing range of content—from machine learning fundamentals to data literacy, MT evaluation, CAT tools, and Large Language Models (LLMs)—while also fostering critical thinking and combating technological hype.

TAITT brings together researchers, educators, industry practitioners, and translators to address these challenges collaboratively. The workshop welcomes contributions that explore how AI-based translation and technologies can be taught effectively across academic, professional, and industry contexts, and how curricula can be adapted to ensure that future translators, linguists, and language professionals develop the necessary competencies for working with modern MT systems and LLMs.

 TOPICS OF INTEREST

TAITT invites submissions that document teaching practices, pedagogical innovations, classroom activities, and methodological insights related to AI-based translation and technologies. Contributions may be theoretical, empirical, technical, or practice-oriented. Topics include but are not limited to:

• Curriculum and syllabus design for MT, CAT, LLMs, and related (translation) technologies

• Teaching machine learning and data science concepts to translators

• In-class or laboratory exercises for teaching MT, post-editing, evaluation, and data handling

• Approaches to teaching data literacy and critical AI literacy in translation education

• Training resources, datasets, and tools developed for teaching translation technology

• Case studies from universities, language service providers, or professional training environments

• Pedagogical strategies for addressing ethical questions, bias, and responsible AI use

• Innovative methods for integrating LLMs into translation classrooms

• Insights into assessment practices for MT- and AI-related modules

TAITT is also open to submissions on additional topics aligned with the scope and to contributions involving multimodal or non-textual translation technologies.
