Tagudin is a first class municipality in the province of Ilocos Sur, Philippines. The name of the municipality was derived from a traditional loom called "tagudan." A Spaniard who came to the place asking its name wrote it as its name when told by a resident, who thought that he was asking the name of the cloth-weaving apparatus she's using.
The name Tagudin was derived from the native drying rack ("pagtagudan") where raw cotton ("sag-ot") was spread out and brushed into threads with coconut husk. The "pag-tagudan" was a common tool during the time when Ilocano blankets were traded in markets as far south as Manila and were well known even to the Igorots on the Pacific side of Luzon.
