Student Advisory Board

  • Students need to be centered in decisions about curriculum and pedagogy and serve as co-creators who can provide meaningful, creative and constructive contributions to courses. The overarching purpose of the Student Advisory Board is to open up the opportunity for collaboration amongst students, faculty, and staff across all disciplines who choose to participate in TAG. Through this, we want to ensure that there is an even playing field with the Student Advisory Board, faculty, and staff who are working together and permit a culture of collaboration and creativity with one another.

  • The principal objectives of the Board would include, but not be limited to: participating in GenEd decisions, reviewing courses to be TAGged, as well as having representation for the "lived experience perspective" to form more inclusive, pedagogical processes within the General Education Council and the James Madison University curriculum as a whole.

  • It is integral to understand that the proposal of such a Student Advisory Board is not unprecedented. Our University has seen this put in place throughout several colleges and departments as a tool to uplift the voices of students who are left unheard in and out of the classrooms of James Madison University.
