He has been working on developing and studying functional materials for photonic and electronic applications. His current research interest focuses on understanding, via first-principles computer simulations, a diversity of unique material properties of crystalline or amorphous chalcogenide compounds, which have been considered as key material types for the next-generation information or energy applications. He has also been utilizing the first-principles method, together with machine-learning techniques, for studying emerging functional materials, including nanomaterials or materials for Li- or Na-ion batteries.
