A Synchronization, or "sync" license is necessary when recorded music is used in combination with visual images. Since the use of music in film, TV, video, game, webcast or other various entertainment and business usages is not covered by the compulsory license provisions of the Copyright Act, sync licenses for these uses must be negotiated on an individual basis. Usually it involes obtaining a Master use license from the copyright owner of the recording and also a Sync license for the use of the composition. Syncfeenz has chosen to work with artists who own their copyrights and will continue to under this licensing model.
