Title: 2D Non-invertible Symmetries and Anomalies from String Theory
Abstract: We investigate a string theory perspective for non-invertible symmetries in 2D QFTs. In particular, we discuss how symmetry topological field theories (SymTFTs) and anomalies of non-invertible symmetries arise from top down. Our primary focus is on an infinite class of 2D QFTs from Calabi-Yau 4-folds probed by D1-branes. We derive 3D SymTFTs from IIB string theory and show the resulting 2D QFTs can exhibit non-invertible symmetries with a wrapped brane origin. These non-invertible symmetries can suffer from anomalies, which are able to be translated into branes patterns ``at infinity''. Explicit examples are provided to illustrate our idea.
