Canvas announcements will be the primary method of communication for this course. It is your responsibility to ensure that your Canvas notification settings are enabled so you do not miss important updates, reminders about upcoming due dates, or other course-related information. While I will share announcements during class when possible, time constraints may mean that some information is communicated only through Canvas. You are expected to log into our Canvas course (ideally daily) and read all posted announcements.
I may also contact individual students using Canvas Inbox or your UO email. Please note that, in accordance with FERPA regulations, I can only communicate about course-related matters using official university communication channels. I am not able to discuss or acknowledge student-specific information through non-UO email accounts.
Email is the best way to reach me, but please keep in mind that this course enrolls a large number of students (approximately 470), and I receive a high volume of messages each day. As a results, response times may vary and are highly dependent on the nature and timing of your email. I do my best to respond as efficiently as possible but I am not able to reply immediately or to provide real-time support.
Before sending an email, please first check the course syllabss, the "hot button" resources on our Canvas homepage, and any posted announcments. These are designed to answer the most common questions quickly. In many cases, you will find the information you need there without waiting for a reply.
I am happy to help with course-related questions that are not addressed in the syllabus or course resources. However, I may not respond to emails that ask questions already answered in these materials or that request exceptions to established course policies.
I do my best to respond to emails within 48 hours (excluding weekends and holidays) but may take up to 72 hours depending on the nature and timing of the email.
If you are experiencing a technical issue (for example, with Achieve or Canvas, the most effective approach is to review the "Tech Support" hot button link on Canvas and then contact UO Campus IT support, if that doesn't resolve your issue.
Emailing me about a technical issue instead of using these channels may delay resolution and could prevent your issue from being resolved before an assignment deadline. Please note that assignment extensions are not granted due to technical issues.
