The Fall 2025 application cycle is officially open! Please find details below.
For Prospective Members...
Here at Sigma Xi, we value research experiences from across all disciplines within science and engineering. Not everyone's research journey will look the same, and that's okay! What we look for are members who are passionate about their chosen field(s) of study and who can bring a positive attitude and unique shared experience to our organization.
For students who are completely new to the research world, we recommend taking part in our Research Immerse program which allows participants to engage in a year-long project in which they develop a literature review on a chosen topic (more details on this in the Research Immerse tab). For other students coming in with research experience right away, we will be hosting our next round of admissions in Fall 2025.
The application will require some basic personal information, a written statement on why you want to join Sigma Xi, and a letter of recommendation from someone who can attest to your research experiences and personal character. If you are selected for membership, you will be assigned either affiliate or associate status, the details of which are in the Affiliate vs Associate tab.

For Current Members...
In Fall 2025, we will continue using the points system from previous semesters. All members will be required to earn a total of 10 points by the end of each semester to remain in good standing.
Attending monthly chapter meetings is required and are worth 1.5 points each. Each member will be permitted one chapter meeting absence per semester, and hte points from this absence must be made up through additional supplementary events.
Other events helped throughout the semester will be worth between 0.5 and 2 points, depending on the level of involvement required (e.g. attending a panel event would be worth 1 point, but speaking on the panel could be worth 1.5 or 2 points).
Failure to meet the required 10 points at the end of the semester will result in being placed on probation the following semester. While on probation, further inaction will result in expulsion from the organization.
