Also did Research Immerse as a mentee last year and I worked to create a lit review on Alzheimer’s treatments and which were most effective to date.
3rd Year Cell and Molecular Biology Major
Research Interests: Cancer biology, immunology, Alzheimer's biomarkers, preventative medicine and risk factors
Experience: Application of photodynamic therapy on pancreatic cancer research in the Hasan Lab at MGH, Staphylococcus research at American College of Thessaloniki, field research on Korean medicine at Kyung Hee University, Alzheimer’s clinical Trials co-op at Brigham and Women's Hospital
3rd Year Chemistry, Behavioral Neuroscience
Research Interests: My research interests span a few different related disciplines and primarily I would say they are all through a lens of a chemistry or biophysics focus. Specifically, I'm interested in proteomics, photochemistry, nanomedicine, gene based and protein based drug development (ex. targeted protein degradation), cancer, and neurobiology.
Experience: In the past I was previously a Sigma Xi Research Immerse Member and it was such a great experience that I now want to pay it forward as a mentor! Research Immerse was my total introduction into the world of research and since then I've utilized all of the soft and hard skills I've learned across a variety of endeavors. One research related endeavor is my first co-op at Blueprint Medicines. At Blueprint, I am in the Chemistry Department working on proteomics, which essentially is the quantification and study of all the proteins in a cell or tissue using methods of mass spectrometry, HPLC, extensive data analysis, and a standardized sample prep! The Research Immersion Program introduced me into the formal professional world of research and science in general, and the most helpful skill I learned was how to engage with the literature and actually LEARN in ways outside of class, as well as how to appropriately present findings and interact with scientists professionally! I was very intimidated by entering research, and I say that to say that there are many avenues to research and that taking the first step to do anything new is often the hardest! If you want it, there is a place for you! Currently, I'm looking to get into a research lab for the Spring 2026 semester after my first co-op!

Electrical Engineering Co-op @ Raytheon
Health Equity and Social Justice Research Institute Intern @ Healthy Lifespan Lab
Engineering Research Intern @ Kostas Research Institute
3rd Year Linguistics and Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Major
Research Interests: Neurobiology of language, communication disorders, bilingual language acquisition
Experience: I’ve been a research assistant at the QLAB on campus, focusing on language acquisition and the brain. I’ve been involved in a study with children with autism and how they learn language through statistical learning patterns, and am now expanding my research focus to studying the speech production system and language acquisition in adults .
4th Year Behavioral Neuroscience Major
Research Interests: Dopamine and reward/motivation, sensory perception, neuropharmacology, in vivo electrophysiology
Experience: Murthy Lab at Harvard University- systems neuroscience lab researching dopamine activity in relation to sensory-guided motivated behaviors in mice
3rd Year Biochemistry Major
Research Interests: The circadian rhythm, and how drug therapies can be tailored to match the circadian rhythm for ideal drug efficacy. I think that Time-based biological phenomena are really fascinating and worth exploring more to see how they can improve treatments.
Experience: Previously, I spent some time in the Chung Lab studying neuroregeneration and how upregulation of certain regeneration associated genes (RAGs) could regenerate parts of the central nervous system in C. elegans. I'm currently a co-op at Tessel, a biotech startup, working on their target discovery projects for muco-obstructive lung disease.
2nd Year Biochemistry Major
Research Interests: I am interested in the intersection between treating psychiatric disorders and neuroscience research. I’m also interested in stem cell research for neurodegenerative diseases.
Experience: I currently am working at the Loring Lab on campus which focuses on researching alpha 7 nicotinic receptors.
3rd Year Biology Major
Research Interests: Zoonotic pathogens, bacteriology, public health, veterinary science
Experience: I have conducted research in the Takacs Lab of Spirochete and Vector Biology here at Northeastern University, focusing on Borrelia burgdorferi (Lyme disease) and Leptospira biflexa (model for Leptospirosis). My work has involved creating mutation constructs, developing new lab protocols, and applying molecular biology techniques such as plasmid construction, transformations, PCR, and microscopy to better understand the underlying mechanisms behind these bacteria. I was awarded the AJC Merit Research Coop Scholarship to support this work and presented my findings at Northeastern’s 2025 RISE research expo. Beyond the lab, I have gained veterinary and public health experience through internships and volunteer roles at the Humane Society of Greater Nashua and the Public Health Museum’s Outbreak! program. These combined experiences reflect my interest in zoonotic pathogens, public health, and veterinary science.
3rd Year Bioengineering/Biochemistry Major
Research Interests: I am working on mechanically analyzing collagen fibrils through individually pulling them in controlled tensile tests. Application of this work includes investigating treatment/prevention of ocular diseases such as glaucoma which is linked with a decrease in scleral stiffness. I am also interested in cancer biology as well as investigating vascular mechanics.
Experience: I have been working in the Ruberti Lab (EMERL) for the past 2 years. Within this lab, I have worked on an experiment in which we isolated single collagen fibrils and pulled them until failure to analyze their stress-strain profile. For my first Co-Op, I worked at Parabilis Medicines where I ran biological assays to screen various in-house developed peptides to analyze their cell based activity in inhibiting growth of cancerous cells.
