Sweetfern is located in the Westways Association on Kezar lake. With four docks, a beach, tennis court, recreation hall, ballfield, and acres of woods and trails, there is plenty to do right here in Westways, rain or shine.
Just across route 5 from Westways is the Heald and Bradley pond reserve.
Sabbatus mountain has a phenomenal view-to-effort ratio. The trailhead is +/- 5 miles from the cottage
Blueberry Mountain, in nearby Evans Notch, is our favorite family hike.
The cottage is close to many wonderful day- or multi-day hikes in the Mahoosucs and the White Mountains beyond, the closest of which are the Baldfaces.
Kezar Lake Marina, down at the narrows on the lake, rents powerboats as well as some kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards.
Sebago Kayak Company rents kayaks and SUPs, and Sebago Sailing Company rents small sailboats. They'll deliver right to the Westways dock and pick up at the end of your week.
The Kezar Lake Country Club was named the best course in the region, and it is located just 5 miles from the cottage.
Shawnee Peak is a great family mountain, only 14 miles from Sweetfern.
Sunday River and Mt. Abram are both about thirty minutes away.
There is cross-country skiing on the Kezar Lake Country Club golf course in the winter, and there are numerous spots for sledding and snowshoeing.
Nearby Bridgton and North Conway have many great options, but there are plenty of good places in Lovell too:
Ebenezer's Pub is a beer connoisseur's dream. It also has great food. Major Bonus: There's a side yard where kids can run around and look for golf balls while you enjoy a Belgian and keep an eye on them from the screened porch window,
Center Lovell Market is a true general store. In the market you find basic groceries, necessities, local produce, and fresh baked goods. The attached restaurant has fabulous breakfasts, down home lunches and dinners, and take-out pizza.
The Loon's Nest at Kezar Lake Marina has decent food in a fun location.
For our family, ice cream is its own dining category. The Loon's Nest ice cream window is a great spot for watching the goings-on at the marina. The window at Pleasant Point, near the town beach, sells cones (as well as grill fare).
