Pubs  Restaurants & Shops


There are many pubs and restaurants in the local villages approximately 3 miles distant. Listed below are ones of interest a little further afield:-

Castle Drogo (4½ miles), National Trust. Entrance to the shop and café is free - the last castle built in England (and by Edwin Lutyens to boot); 01647 433306; NT site. Beautiful gardens and a castle folly which is under extensive repair. https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/castle-drogo


Royal Oak (free house), Dunsford (2½ miles) - a family-run country pub with a walled courtyard; 01647 252256; drive or walk through Dunsford Woods. 


Fingle Bridge Inn. (3 miles). You can opt to walk or cycle westwards along the River Teign to (free house), Drewsteignton - beer garden right on the river; Cream Teas 01647-281287. 


Drew Arms, Drewsteignton 3 miles Thatched pub in a beautiful thatched village, once owned by Auntie, the oldest licencee, untit she was 100, in England from WW1 to the late Nineties, now always changing hands. Now you see it now you don't!

The Warren House Inn 10 miles. Take your drinks across the road for stunning views over Dartmoor. a remote and isolated public house in the heart of Dartmoor, Devon, England. It is the highest pub in southern England at 1,425 feet (434 m) above sea level. 

Two Bridges Hotel (15 miles) has a bar and does cream teas. Beautiful setting, but not the cheapest.  Lovely cram teas.

Shops

Cheriton Bishop 3 miles village shop and post office open all hours.

Dunsford 2.5 miles. Small village shop, newspapers and post office restricted hours.

Moretonhampstead 3.5 miles.  Small Co-op supermarket. Also post office greengrocer and butcher 

Exeter 12 miles. Excellent shopping centre.
