MSRI-UP

Suzanne Weekes is one of the founding co-directors of the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute Undergraduate Program (MSRI-UP).

The MSRI-UP is a comprehensive program for undergraduates that aims to increase the number of students from underrepresented groups in mathematics graduate programs.

MSRI-UP includes summer research opportunities, academic and professional development activities, mentoring, and follow-up support. The program aims to help students develop the necessary skills and knowledge to participate in successful collaborations, and to provide them with a community of academic peers and mentors who can advise, encourage, and support them through a successful graduate program. This is achieved through an intensive six-week summer program of mathematics research and other activities, along with maintenance of relationships with participating students for years beyond the summer program.

This program started in 2007 and has been funded by the National Security Agency through grants H98230-07-1-0084, H98230-08-1-0063, H98230-09-1-0103, H98230-10-1-0233, H98230-11-1-0213, H98230-13-1-0262, H98230-15-1-0039, H98230-16-1-0033, the National Science Foundation via DMS-0754872, DMS-1156499, DMS-1659138, and the Sloan Foundation via G 2016-7266.
