Climate change is an existential threat. We need to break our fossil fuel addiction. Governments, businesses, individuals; we all must contribute. I’ve minimized my personal and businesses carbon footprint and am running for council to help county government do likewise.

County Council controls the budget. Our spending should reflect our goals for a safe, diverse and resilient community. As a council member I will pursue targeted spending with measurable outcomes to achieve community goals.

The council will face budget challenges. Covid19 is an immediate threat. We’ll be dealing with the economic impacts for years. Climate change is an ongoing threat. We will deal with it’s economic impacts for decades. Decisions we make today will compound as weather becomes more intense and extreme. Even as we respond to the Covid19 crisis we must recognize and respond to climate change. Investment in community owned clean energy will protect budgets into the future..

Tippecanoe County currently spends over half our general fund on criminal justice. That portion is growing and prevents spending on other public assets. Like many of us, I too have been a victim of crime. I understand the reflexive call for incarceration. But investing in prevention, treatment and rehabilitation can be more effective in protecting our community. As a councilor I will support outcome-based criminal justice solutions.

Lastly, county spending on recreational assets is too low. Access to trails, parks and outdoor recreation will make our community a better place to live.

My experience and community involvement with the Greater Lafayette Chapter of the ACLU of Indiana, historic preservation, bicycle advocacy, as a court appointed child advocate, business owner and Purdue retiree will inform my decisions on county spending and I ask for your vote.
