Idealita ISMANTO
Idealita Ismanto is an Indonesian documentary photographer and visual storyteller based in Surabaya. With over 20 years of experience, her work focuses on deep human issues such as women's rights, community empowerment, and the daily lives of children. She is a member of the Women Photograph collective.
She is particularly known for her intimate long-term projects, such as Short Time Memories, which explores her personal journey through postpartum depression, and The Lost World, documenting her daughter’s life during the COVID-19 pandemic. She also co-founded Melihat Bersama, an online platform dedicated to social advocacy through photography.
Key Achievements:
NGO Collaboration: Has worked with global organizations like UN Women and the Indonesian Women’s Coalition.
Exhibitions: Her work has been showcased at the National Gallery of Indonesia, the Kunstkamera Museum (Russia), and the Angkor Photo Festival.
Clément CAIGNART
Clément is a French artist, researcher, and filmmaker whose work explores the intersection of documentary, fiction, and institutional critique. A graduate of the Beaux-Arts de Paris, he also studied at the Cooper Union in New York and the Offshore program in Shanghai.
Since 2016, he has primarily collaborated with Hélène Deléan under the collective name Irma Name. Their practice uses video and performance to create "speculative narratives" that examine how media and politics shape our reality. In 2022, they released their first film, Rois d’Asile.

Residencies: Prestigious stints at Villa Kujoyama (Japan) and Bétonsalon.
Projects: Created Le langage de l'événement, an educational project focused on critical media analysis.
Kai LÖFFELBEIN
Kai is a German documentary photographer whose work interrogates the intersections of political power, economic structures, and historical memory. With a background in political science in Berlin and a BA in photography from the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Hannover, he combines analytical research with visual storytelling to examine the hidden forces shaping contemporary society.
His projects explore the material and ideological traces of global capitalism and postcolonial histories. In Ctrl-X. A Topography of E-Waste (Steidl, 2018), he investigates the global circuits of electronic waste, while Common Dreams (Kehrer Verlag, 2023) reflects on China’s rapid transformation within a broader historical context. His ongoing work ECHO ECHO focuses on Germany’s colonial past and its enduring presence in today’s landscapes and collective memory.
Alongside his artistic practice, Löffelbein teaches workshops and lectures on documentary photography, visual storytelling, and research-based methods. He supports participants in developing their own visual language and encourages a reflective approach to images and their contexts.
Jakob VICARI
Jakob is a German science journalist, innovation strategist, and a leading pioneer in Sensor Journalism (the Journalism of Things). Since March 2025, he has served as a Professor of Data Journalism at the Hannover University of Applied Sciences and Arts.
He is the founder of tactile.news, an innovation lab based in Lüneburg that helps newsrooms integrate emerging technologies. Vicari is renowned for groundbreaking projects like Superkühe (SuperCows) and #bienenlive, which used IoT sensors to transform real-time biological data into interactive narratives.
Key Achievements:
Innovation: Developed tools like 100EYES for dialogue journalism.
Awards: Named Science Journalist of the Year (2015) and winner of multiple German Reporter Prizes.
Karen FROMM
Karen Fromm, a professor and PhD in photography, was born in Hamburg in 1968. She studied art history, literature, and management culture in Hamburg and Berlin. A graduate of Humboldt University, she is the author of the dissertation “The Image as Witness: The Representation of Documentary Aspects in Artistic Photography Since 1980.”
From 2008 to 2011, she was a member of the photography department’s leadership at the press and photography agency FOCUS. Since 2010, she has been Senior President of the Friends of the House of Photography at the Deichtorhallen in Hamburg. Since 2011, Karen Fromm has been teaching Applied Sciences and Arts at the University of Hanover.
Mamuk ISMUNTORO
Mamuk Ismuntoro (born June 2, 1975) is a renowned Indonesian documentary photographer, photojournalist, and visual literacy advocate based in Surabaya. He is widely recognized as the founder of MATANESIA (established in 2006), a community and institution dedicated to photography education, documentation, and visual storytelling.
His work often focuses on social and environmental issues, most notably the long-term impact of the Sidoarjo mudflow disaster. His acclaimed photobook, Tanah yang Hilang (The Lost Lands, 2014), documents the loss of livelihood and community caused by this environmental tragedy through a deeply personal lens.
Key Achievements:
Education & Mentorship: He is a lecturer in photojournalism and leads workshops like the Photography Clinic to train the next generation of visual storytellers.
Visual Literacy: In 2023, he received an award from the Mayor of Surabaya for his dedication to visual literacy and city archiving through the Koparska community.
Publications: Beyond Tanah yang Hilang, his work includes the photobook Requiem, which also explores the human cost of the Sidoarjo disaster.
