The District 7 Youth Council is a youth-led advisory group that works closely with Supervisor Myrna Melgar and the District 7 Youth Commissioner to elevate the voices of young people in local decision-making. We focus on youth-related issues like education, mental health, climate justice, public safety, and civic participation.
As a council, we learn about how San Francisco government works, share our perspectives on policies that affect our lives, and build leadership skills through community-based projects and initiatives. Together, we create space for youth to be heard and to shape the future of our neighborhoods.
You don’t need a resume full of titles or experience to be part of the council. What we’re looking for is you — someone who cares about their community, wants to speak up, and is ready to be part of something meaningful.
Whether you’re involved in your school, passionate about a cause, or just starting to explore what civic engagement means — we welcome your voice. Our council is a space to grow, learn, and make connections with other young people who want to make a difference.
The District 7 Youth Council is open to high school students (grades 9–12) who live or go to school in San Francisco’s District 7 — including neighborhoods like West Portal, Forest Hill, Sunnyside, Inner Sunset, Miraloma Park, and more.
