Wearing a mask is completely about protecting the people around you, including our high-risk friends and family. When masks are widely used in public spaces, spread of COVID-19 can be reduced. Masks/face coverings act as a simple barrier to help prevent expired vapor from traveling into the air and onto other people when the person wearing the mask coughs, sneezes, talks, or raises their voice.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that people wear masks/face coverings in public settings when around people outside of their household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain. You should wear your mask in all public areas of campus (classrooms, hallways, dining facilities, etc).
Proper wearing and care of your mask is a critical step in reducing the spread of COVID19. In this video, SUNY Potsdam's Dr. Janelle Jacobson shows you everything you need to know about wearing a mask.
