Grade Level Outcomes
Elementary school is the foundation for the development of fundamental motor skills, it is imperative that the focus of physical education be on skill acquisition. Emerging skills become mature skills only with deliberate practice and quality instruction.
The National Standards and the grade-level outcomes for elementary school physical education are based on the tenets of skill acquisition, enjoyment, and success. The outcomes are designed to foster the maturing of fundamental motor skills and the developing understanding of movement concepts and fitness principals. These outcomes are based on motor development research, children's developmental levels, and past experiences in physical education.
Outcomes for standards 1 and 2 in elementary school physical education are centered around skill development in the areas of games, educational gymnastics, and dance. The outcomes for standard 3 focus on fitness knowledge, engagement in physical activity, and assessment. The groundwork for standards 4 and 5 begins in elementary school, as children to accept feedback from teachers and peers, interact positively with others and be responsible for personal behavior in physical activity environments.
The following outcomes will be found on the progress reports that go home in February and June. Just click on the title to investigate:
