This road-map illustrates emphasis of the outcomes at each level and conveys the idea that there are may ways to accomplish this.
At the Sunita Williams Elementary School, our students are taking their first steps on their journey towards leading a lifetime full of Physical Activity in an instructional setting. In the Needham Public Schools, our curriculum is guided by National Standards accompanied by grade level outcomes (benchmarks) which give us a framework for producing physically literate individuals.
The graphic to the right illustrates each of the five National Standard for K-12 Physical Education created and supported by SHAPE America (Society of Health and Physical Educators). These Standards were newly revised in the spring of 2014 and the elementary physical education staff took time over the summer to adopt these standards and subsequent benchmarks into the curriculum in time for the 2014/2015 school year.
