The Traveling Rainbow!

The Traveling Rainbow came to visit Sumner on April 29, 2024! The Downeast Rainbow Alliance is a coalition of young adults, educators, LGBTQIA+ community members and allies, healthcare workers, and organizers. Their goal is to spread diversity and acceptance in Washington County. The Traveling Rainbow is a project started by the DRA. Read more about it here

Civil Rights Team Movie Night!

On March 29th, 2024 the Civil Rights Team was joined by Shenna Bellows the Maine Secretary of State, and David A. Weeda an activist known for his work in LGBTQIA+ rights, gender equality, race equality and so much more. The CRT previewed The Ordinance Project, a documentary highlighting the efforts of David and many other activists who fought for HIV status and Gay/Lesbian identities to be protected under an ordinance in Kansas City.

Culture Night!

We hosted the first Culture Night at the CMSLC on February 5th, 2024. Every member of the Civil Rights Team picked a different nation to represent. Puerto Rico, Iraq, Mexico, Italy, Argentina, and so many other amazing cultures were represented in our cafeteria! There were presentations from Ren Salisbury about his time in Japan and from Ada Fisher about her semester abroad in Argentina! We hope to make this a yearly tradition held at Sumner.
