Please be punctual with pick up. AM classes end at noon and PM extended session ends at 2:30 p.m. Exit door is also door #70.
Carefully watch for pedestrians.
All students need to attend with their own instrument, books and supplies. Large instruments can stay in the building throughout the week and percussion students only need to bring stick bags and books.
You may sign up for additional weeks or add the extended session option anytime throughout the month. Additional AM weeks? Call the Recreation office directly (908) 369-4832. This is important in order to maximize your savings. This program is designed to save more as students attend more!
Adding the extended PM session? Go back into community pass and simply add the class. Students in the PM session must be enrolled in the
corresponding AM session week. You may also drop by the Hillsborough Recreation Office to do this in person: Hillsborough Recreation Department: 379 South Branch Road, Hillsborough, NJ 08844
We will begin each week with “Music Shirt Monday”. Wear your school band, orchestra, choir or favorite music group shirt to start the week on a unifying high note!
Be kind. Be respectful. Ask questions when needed. Have fun!
The program is located at Auten Road Intermediate School. Session begins at 9 am and ends at 12 noon daily from June 29th through July 31st. PM extended session ends daily at 2:30 p.m. There are no classes on the Friday, July 3rd in observance of the 4th of July Holiday Celebrations.
The entry and exit door for the Summer Music Academy is door #70 which is to the right of the ARIS main entrance behind the flagpole. Staff members and/or a program volunteer will be at the door to welcome students daily. Please maintain driveway speed limits and traffic patterns. Watch carefully for students exiting vehicles.
Students may go directly to their rehearsal rooms. Please wait outside the room until the director is present, do not enter the room without a teacher welcoming you into the room. Here are where the classes are located:
Intermediate Band is in the main band room #502
Intermediate Orchestra is in the main orchestra room #503
Advanced Band Ensemble is located in the LMC (library)
Advanced Orchestra Ensemble is located in room #501
Spotlight on Vocal Class is located in the 5th grade music room #303
If your student musician is absent on any day, please email us at summermusicacademy08844@gmail.com so that the staff is aware of the absence. If we do not hear from you, we must reach out to confirm via email.
We would appreciate hearing from you about your child's absence prior to the start of the day.
Large instruments can stay in the ensemble rooms for the week (string bass, tuba, etc) Students with special circumstances or transport concerns may speak with their ensemble director on their first day. We will work out a comfortable solution for your student musician.
Percussion will only need to bring sticks, mallets, and books.
Everyone needs to bring their own instruments, books, reeds, rosin, valve oil and any additional supplies.
The program DOES NOT provide supplies.
PM extended session students need to also bring their own lunch.
Only quick and easy instrument repairs can be done on site. Other repair issues must be handled by rental companies or local music stores/repair shops.
While we understand that things do happen, students are expected to handle their instruments responsibly and carefully.
If you have only signed up for 1 or 2 weeks and want to add weeks to the AM session, it is very easy to do. Simply call the Recreation office directly for the proper adjustment to the program fee (908) 369-4832. They can adjust your enrollment over the phone. This is very important to maximize savings. The program is designed to attend more and save with a built-in discount across multiple weeks.
If you have not enrolled in the PM session, you may simply go back into community pass and select the extended session option. It is just like adding an additional class.
RESPECT EVERYONE and EVERYTHING. Strive to be extra kind and welcoming to your classmates.
Be respectful of the value of all instruments, especially the percussion instruments. Please do not touch at all if you are not a percussionist. Percussionists, do not hit or bang on any instrument. Do not place any books or additional equipment on top of any instrument and always use proper sticks, mallets or beaters.
Gum or food is not permitted in any rehearsal space. Water only. You may bring a snack if needed, but it must stay outside on the instrument racks.
*Please let the staff know if you have a special need to snack at a specific time. We will accomodate students with special considerations with regard to snacks.*
Tell a friend you are joining us! Perhaps they will join too! Families can still sign up for at least one week as late as Friday, July 24th.
And lastly, HAVE FUN!! Throughout your experience with us, contact us directly with any questions or concerns. We are looking forward to a great summer of music together!
