Yes, however, please note that the Summer Music Academy is not for beginner instrumentalists. If brand new to band or orchestra, it is necessary to attend a few start-up lessons with a private teacher prior to attending this program. We recommend that students are able to produce proper tone and are able to play at least one basic scale. Older students may also choose to participate in the Intermediate Ensemble to work slowly at their own pace.
Absolutely! Each week contains expertly crafted lesson plans that are not dependent upon what occurred in class the previous week. Your child can join in at the start of any week offered at the Summer Music Academy!
Yes! However, do not add weeks independently in community pass because you will not benefit from the multiple week savings. The Hillsborough Recreation Department can do this for you over the phone or stop over to their office in person. This is important to maximize your savings. There is a built-in discount for families who attend multiple weeks. The more weeks your child attends, the greater the savings! The Hillsborough Recreation Department phone number is (908) 369-4832.

You can buy or order them at any music store or online (Amazon, JW Pepper, etc.) Please be certain that the titles and authors match the description provided on the supply page. The pm session is recommended for students who have 2 years of experience on their instruments; however, it is not a requirement. The class works out of a method book called "Sound Innovations for Orchestra" which includes delving into sharp keys for band students and flat keys for string students. In addition to learning new key signatures and becoming more familiar with enharmonic tones and the chromatic scales, many supplemental trio and duet chamber ensemble materials are infused into instruction within these new sharp and flat key signatures. Students generally leave this class loving the experience of all playing together and learning more about all of the instruments. A student needs to attend with a desire to learn and a positive attitude. The environment is relaxed and there is a wide variety of music presented!
