Classes Offered

Students are divided into grade level chamber groups. There are two band ensembles: a grade 6 and 7 Intermediate Ensemble and a grade 8 and up Advanced Ensemble.  There are also two separate string ensembles: a grade 6 and 7 Intermediate Ensemble and a grade 8 and up Advanced Ensemble. These ensembles work out of 2 required books to purchase; one method book (that is a complement to what students use during the school year), and one ensemble book. Additionally, instructors utilize a variety of supplemental materials to enhance instruction and expose students to a variety of genres. Students will have an opportunity to take risks and chart their own course by selecting their challenge level. There is something for everyone and students learn in a supportive classroom environment that is low key, friendly, and not performance driven. These ensembles work together from 9 am to 12 noon. Playing breaks are built into the morning and focus on applying music skills through games and other related activities the promote bonding and teamwork.

This ensemble class is open to all instruments offered during the school year in band and orchestra classes. 

*Please note that the Summer Music Academy does not include beginners brand new to an instrument, piano, or guitar lessons. *

This class session is for all vocalist students entering grade 6 and up. an immersive program for students who want to take their singing to the next level. Whether their passion is modern pop, musical theater, or writing their own songs, this camp will help vocalists develop the skills, confidence, and artistry to shine on stage and in auditions. Through dynamic group workshops, individualized vocal coaching, and real-world audition practice, students will strengthen their technique, expand repertoire, and learn how to deliver captivating performances. Aspiring singer-songwriters will also explore lyric writing, song structure, and creative expression. Students should join this summer to discover their unique voice, refine their craft, and perform with confidence!

All instrumentalists will have the opportunity to stay with us longer! The PM Symphony Class option is for all instrumentalists. We are SO excited to once again offer students something that they do not experience in their curricular school ensembles - a full Symphony experience where woodwinds, brass, percussion, AND strings will experience a music ensemble class and create music together! This EXTENDED SESSION OPTION is only an option for STUDENTS ENROLLED in the MORNING SESSION. TWO years of playing experience for this option is recommended but not required. Students with 1 year experience need to enter this session with a positive attitude and appreciate a challenge! An additional method book is required.

ALL students will have a schedule with built in embouchure, hands, and vocal breaks which will contain an outstanding reinforcement of music concepts through team building, games, and other related activities. 

Instrumentalists may choose to join us for a 5th week! A fifth week will be added! Week 5 will be exclusively for band and orchestra students and will be placed into a multi-level band or string group (6 and up Band Ensemble, 6 and up Orchestra String Ensemble). This added week will provide students with exposure to different literature and expand opportunities for leadership/ community building across grade levels.
