How can I make a meaningful contribution in such a short time?
We strive to create "right-sized" placement opportunities that respond to community-identified needs. Dr. Haley is engaged in community health assessment and improvement planning processes in central and north central MA, and has developed a list of potential projects based on conversations with partners who are working daily with Worcester-area residents navigating barriers to health.
The Placement Opportunity list represents ideas that can be shaped into placements during initial conversations with partners. Every placement is different because it depends on the skills and interests the learner brings to the experience. Some project types we have seen work successfully:
Review and update of websites, social media presence, handouts, educational programming
Planning and staffing community fairs, workshops or other events
Conducting data collection or audits for quality improvement projects
Exploration of other models of community- and population-based responses to SDOH (for example, how do they manage lack of affordable housing in other cities and how do the consequences for the unhoused differ from those produced by the model here?)
Laying the foundation for a longitudinal project to be completed during pathway project time and later clerkships
Progress Reports
TBD - this may only apply to those receiving AHEC funding; details will appear here before May 12
Entering Activities in Collaboratory
Please enter SCHA-funded and any of your other community-engaged activities in the Collaboratory database at https://he.cecollaboratory.com/umms ! Enter as a proxy, and invite your supervising faculty or staff member to join and approve it. If you're not working with another faculty or staff person, list Dr. Haley as the owner and she'll approve and publish the listing. The Office for Community and Government Relations hosts tutorial materials on their intranet site. Thanks!
Preparing a poster
The OUME will share a standard template and directions from the library. Additional resources can be found below.
