This summer our retreat is happening in, San Feliu de Codinas, Spain, about 45 minutes drive from Barcelona. This is in the heart of Catalunya where you will find the common language is actually Catalan not Spanish. The town has a supermarket, pharmacy, and other conveniences noted below. Additionally there are restaurants, bakeries for fresh daily bread, and plenty of cafes – all within a 10-20 minute stroll (or a few moments drive) from the property. The area is best-known for small towns, pretty hikes, small local shops, and a few pretty sites - like the local monastery.
The weather in San Feliu de Codinas is likely to have daytime temperatures ranging between 26°C (79 °F) to 27°C (82°F). Evening temperatures range from 14°C (58°F) to 16°C (61°F) Please pack your casual clothes and a bathing suit for the pool! Please account fo the cooler evening temperatures - and bring some shoes that are comfortable for walking!
A reminder that because this is an Airbnb it won’t have the same amenities that hotels have so please remember to bring what you need (though of course there are nearby stores and markets if you forget anything!). Some commonly forgotten items:
Basic toiletries: toothpaste, toothbrush, soap
Travel adaptor for the EU (see picture)
Medication: prescription drugs, pain relievers, etc.
We will be providing:
15 euros for each travel day (those with overnight flights will receive this for two days)
10 euros per day for Monday-Thursday to cover incidental chocolate bars or coffees!
We will reimburse for all ground transportation - just be sure to keep your receipts!
Although you will be well looked after and Spain is a very safe country, it’s always good to be aware of your surroundings. Keep valuables such as cell phones, passports and money either on your person or locked in your room.
By now, you should have all received your travel insurance information from Billie-Jo. Please print and have a copy on hand in the unlikely event that you need it because you may need documentation. Billie-Jo is the key contact for each policy and has all of the contract details for each of you so please keep in touch with her if a claim is to be made.
Covid Protocol
While we have all emerged into what we consider to be a mostly post-pandemic world, Covid is still a reality, and with a lot of travel in Europe in the summer, we must protect each other by taking precautions. While traveling please use your judgment around wearing a mask in places where Covid rates are high or you think there may be heightened risk. We ask all participants to self-monitor their health throughout the event. If you are feeling unwell or experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms, we ask that you please self-isolate and let one of the Co-EDs know.
Acknowledgment of Risks
Due to the nature of COVID-19, we are unable to guarantee a COVID-19-free environment or eliminate the chance of infection and the health risks associated with it. By attending the retreat, you acknowledge and assume the risks involved. A reminder that the retreat is not mandatory, and there is no risk to your employment if you choose not to attend.
