Project Objective:
To have a stable 1 Mbps IP bidirectional connectivity on an orbiting 5G UE in Low Earth Orbit, with a seamless handover between two ground-based gNBs, following the 3GPP adaptations proposed in R17 for NTN.
5G UE stack on-board the satellite will be running on the Zynq® UltraScale+™ RFSoC (regenerative payload).
The 5G gNB stack on-ground will be implemented using the OpenAirInterface 5G gNB software stack with 3GPP R17 modifications
My role:
Study of functional split (nFAPI) of OpenAirInterface5G nrUE (PHY on FPGA while MAC and above on ARM Co-processor)
Assist FPGA engineers to port the OpenAirInterface5G-NTN UE PHY layer protocol stack on RFSoC
