Live Demonstration of 5G Waveform Over a GEO Satellite
Funded by: Société Européenne des Satellites (SES)
Project Objective:
To conduct a live over-the-satellite demonstration of an end-to-end 5G NTN link over a geostationary orbit (GEO) satellite.
Study the implementation overhead of OAI for prospective 5G-NTN applications
My role:
Replicated 5G-GOA setup in the commercial environment.
Developed routines for predicting Timing Advance to address wobbling of GEO satellite in the absence of SIB-19
Worked on improving spectral efficiency by enabling the RLC Acknowledge Mode
Worked on improving spectral efficiency by increasing the number the LDPC decoder iterations
Testbed set-up at UniLu, Over-the-satellite live testing, KPI logging, and analysis

iperf test to assess the TCP and UDP bandwidths.
Please note that on the uplink, due to a small dish at the UE, only QPSK was feasible.
Ping tests to view the latency. It is around 540 ms during this experiment.
Live video streaming in the downlink using UDP.
