Examining Core Vocabulary Language Development for Students Using Alternative and Augmentative Communication Devices in the Classroom

The Rehabilitation act of 1973, creating equal access to education for all disabled persons from institutions receiving federal funding (Heasman & Gillespie, 2018).  Neurodivergent individuals are seeking more acceptance and awareness.  Many of my students are not always connecting to the world.  I want to help them connect and aid their families in creating the best outcome for their student.  Western countries have embraced neurodivergent Individuals; whereas Eastern countries still feel shame attached to their family members with developmental delays.  Often placing them In mental health facilities.

The research Is currently lacking a connection to how the neurodiversity social movement began focusing on the areas of core vocabulary development.  How will we continue to Improve this movement, especially with children?  Supporting diversity and their needs Is Important to Improve this social movement.   My research will be derived from critical pedagogy In special education, researching the elementary school community and practice, professional learning communities, and the development of core vocabulary for students using AAC devices for language development.

Neurodivergent Individuals

Neurodivergent individuals have not always had the acceptance in society as they are now.  In the past a neurodivergent person was mostly considered a person with autism.  Neurodivergent individuals are more than autism, but include: Schizoaffective disorder, Bipolar, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Dyslexia, Color Blindness, Left-handedness, ADHD, Learning disabilities, sensory processing disorders, and Autism Spectrum Disorder.
