Transfering your Previously Earned Credits to EHS or NGA

Credit Transfer Policy

In compliance with accreditation standards, Excel High School and Northgate Academy will accept up to 75% of transfer credits toward high school graduation. To accept transfer credits we must have an official transcript sent to us directly from a previous school. The sooner we get the transcripts, the sooner we can ensure that the student is in the right classes to meet graduation requirements.

Without an official transcript, students will be required to complete all 21.5 credits with NGA or EHS in order to graduate.

How to Request Your Transcript from Your Previous School and Have it Sent to Us

Instructions for retrieving transcripts will vary depending on your educational background. Below, we have listed specific instructions from our most common educational backgrounds.

Transcripts from U.S. Schools

Step 1

Call your previous school and ask them about sending your transcript to us. They will need specific information from you in order to locate your transcript and know where to send it. We have created a Transcript Request Form (click here for NGA/ click here for EHS) for compiling important information that your school may require. You may need to fill out this form and then send it to your previous school by email. Your school may have another system for accessing and sending your records. Make sure to follow the steps they require to successfully request your transcript.

Here’s how your transcript can be sent to EHS:

 EHS Email: records@excelhighschool.com

NGA Email: records@northgateacademy.com

Fax: 952-465-3701

Mail: Excel High School/ Northgate Academy

601 Carlson Parkway, Suite 1250

Minnetonka, MN 55305, USA

Step 2

Wait for an email from our registrar. Once your previous school has sent your transcript to us, it may take some time for us to receive it. Transcripts that are faxed or emailed will likely arrive within minutes to hours from when the previous school sent them. Mailed transcripts can take a week or two depending on where they are sent from. Once our Registrar receives your transcript, please allow up to 5 business days for them to process it. Once they have processed it, you will receive an email letting you know that your transcript has been received. Please note that your transcripts will not be audited until you have made your first monthly payment.

Haven't received a confirmation email from our registrar?

Follow up if necessary. If 2-3 weeks pass after completing step 1 and you haven't received email confirmation that we have your transcript, please call or email us. Things happen, and transcripts do not always arrive to us successfully. If this happens, we need to follow up with the previous school to ensure that your transcript arrives successfully. It is important to receive your transcript so you can feel confident you are in the correct courses.

Transcripts from Schools outside of the U.S.

If your credits were earned outside of the United States and your previous school is not accredited by an approved accrediting agency (click here to view the list), your transcript will need to go through a special evaluation process. This evaluation is done by an organization called Scholaro. After the evaluation is completed by Scholaro, they will send the results directly to our registrar. Please follow these steps to have your credits transferred:

Step 1

Collect your records. Make sure to locate records from all of the schools that you have attended during grades 9-12 (the last 4 grades of school known in the U.S. as high school). We do not need elementary or middle school records for our high school programs. The easiest format for your transcript is .pdf. You also have the option to mail your transcript, but this will make the process longer.

Step 2

Upload your transcripts to Scholaro. Please use these instructions to submit your transcripts to Scholaro for evaluation. You will want a Course-by-Course evaluation.

Northgate Academy students, submit your transcripts to Scholaro here

Excel High School students, submit your transcripts to Scholaro here.

Step 3

Wait and watch your email. Once Scholaro completes their evaluation, they will send the result to your school’s registrar. When the registrar receives your transcript, they will email you to let you know. If you selected the No Rush option, it typically takes 10 business days from the time you submit your transcript to Scholaro for us to receive your transcript. After we receive your transcript it will take another 5-7 business days to process it and transfer in your credits. *Please note that your total credits may change after they are converted to the U.S. credit system and that your transcripts will not be audited until you have made your first monthly payment.*

If you have any questions during this process, please send your success coach an email or give us a call. Your transcripts and credits are very important to us, and we are here to support you as you go through this process.

Homeschool Records

If your credits were earned through a homeschool program that is not accredited by one of the approved accrediting agencies, then a homeschool portfolio process will need to be completed to transfer in any credits.

Once your portfolio is submitted for evaluation, it will take some time for the process to be completed. If you have questions about the process, please follow up with your success coach.

Credits will be Accepted from these Accrediting Agencies

Northgate Academy and Excel High School will accept credits at face value from schools directly accredited by the following agencies, adopted from (DHS.gov)
