"Attending a school in the East Coast is a really big opportunity to not only expand the parameters of our perspectives but also to gain that sophistication that the professional work-force calls for. However, this may also bring a financial burden... So on behalf of my family, I want to emphasize our appreciation for helping alleviate the load on my parents' shoulders."

"The world is such a big place and I've only seen a small fraction of it. South Texas will always be the place that made me the person I am now, but it is time to discover the many challenges that other parts of the world have."
Karla Camacho

"Karla undertook organizing an event named Soccer for Hope which brought teenagers from the local undocumented minors shelter to participate in a soccer tournament with our students. The event has become an annual tradition on our campus. She is a campus leader who doesn’t hesitate to speak or act in the interest of her community."
