Eligibility
- To be considered for this award, the candidate must meet the following criteria:
- Applicant must be a resident of South Texas (i.e., any community east and south of Corpus Christi, Texas up to the U.S.-Mexico border)
- Applicant must have accepted an offer of admission to a postsecondary institution located in the Northeast (ME, VT, NH, NY, MA, RI, CT, PA, NJ, DE, MD, or Washington, D.C)
- Applicant demonstrates high moral and academic standards
- Applicant is well-rounded as evidenced by involvement in extracurricular activities or other commitment outside of school
- Applicant has demonstrated a commitment to giving back to their family and/or community
- Applicant shows promise of future engagement as a member of the South Texas East Coasters network
- Applicants who have persevered in light of significant barriers and who anticipate substantial financial strain in pursuing future study are especially encouraged to apply
Selection Criteria
- The award committee will review completed applications using the following criteria:
- Completed application form, including short essays
- Up-to-date resume
- Current high school transcript (unofficial)
- Acceptance letter to an East Coast college or university
- One letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, group sponsor or employer
