The South Texas East Coasters are a group of South Texans who live(d) on the East Coast, primarily in the Northeast. The group began in 2007 after a small contingent of college students met at a conference and realized they shared one common link — each proudly hailed from South Texas. Thrilled to find others who knew where they came from and eager to meet more, they created an informal group called the South Texas East Coasters on Facebook. The South Texas East Coasters network now counts with over 200 members: current undergraduate and graduate students, recent alumni, and many who are now established in their careers worldwide. The group continues the tradition of gathering in the Rio Grande Valley during the "winter break," and awards a one-time scholarship for a graduating senior attending a Northeast college or university through a partnership with the Rio Grande Valley Community Foundation.
