I have 30 laying hens at the moment. I have brown, white, blue, and green egg layers.
*Now accepting (eating) eggs orders*
For three years (2020-2022), I bought day-old chicks and raised them to laying age. For the first 6 weeks, they have to be under a heat lamp, get transferred to my grower coop for 10 weeks, and then start laying around 16-21 weeks. I keep some for myself as replacement layers and then sell the others as a start-up flock package or replacement layers to current chicken owners. 2021 was the first year that I bought fertilized eggs and hatched them out of an incubator. This was such a unique experience that I look forward to doing it again. Raising these chicks has taught me a lot of lessons, including marketing, business management, building/woodworking, loss, and seeing what can be accomplished from hard work.
*Now accepting orders for POL Pullets in September and chick preorders for April and May*
We have 6 ducks. 1 Pekin, 1 Silver Runner, 1 Blue Runner, and 3 Barnyard Mixes.
*Now taking orders for Purebred Blue Indian Runner Ducklings to be hatched in June*
Broody means a hen wants to hatch some eggs. One of my Plymouth Rocks, Mary Poopins, went broody at the beginning of May in 2020, so I got some fertile eggs as I didn't have a rooster at the time and she ended up hatching 6 little chicks! Once again in July of 2021, Mary went boody again and ended up hatching three chicks. Watching the chicks hatch was a very educational experience for my entire family. I also had a gold laced cochin hen go broody in the summer of 2025 and she hatched 3 chicks.
I had the opportunity to acquire my dream birds, Mille de Fleur Belgium D'uccle birds in the summer of 2024! Along with d'uccles, I also bought golden-laced Cochins and Tolbunt Polish birds.
I have a flock of purebred Buff Orpingtons that don't come from a hatchery line. I do sell chicks in the spring and summer.
My laying hen numbers are dwindling so this year (2024), I finally convinced my Mom to let me get more chicks. I got 4 Rhode Island Reds from Miller Hatcheries, 5 chicks from Peavey Mart, and then hatched out 16 Buff Orpington crosses.
